I’m officially on the mend! My ‘sick as a dog’ phase is passing and I’m moving back into normal operating parameter of: ‘healthy as a horse’. I’m going to resist looking up the history of that phrase for now, but I may come back to it.
Not too much news to cover, but that’s not too surprising. Most companies are going to be saving news for E3. I’m seeing a lot of news being more about what we’re not going to see at E3. It’s disappointing to see, but at least expectations can be set better this way than dashing your hopes while you eagerly await the respective event. Better to know now than to know later!
I’ve got a busy work week this week on top of the busy news cycle that’s coming, so I’m going to enjoy these slower news days so I can be geared up and ready for the big stuff that’s just around the bend!
Until next time,
Brandon
Indie Game Spotlight: Palworld
Developed by PocketPair, Palworld is an upcoming open-world survival game. What sets this game apart is: it’s Pokémon, with cover-shooter mechanics and crafting components.
The focal point of play is around these Pokémon-like monsters called Pals. PocketPair says that you can make the Pals battle, breed, help with farming, put them to work in factories, and more. The game is currently slated for release sometime in 2022.
Brandon’s Thoughts: There’s a whole lot to unpack here in such a short trailer. If you’re a fan of open-world crafting games, give the trailer a watch. It’s a bizarre amalgamation of concepts, but I’ll admit it’s certainly captured my intrigue. I look forward to hearing more news about it - if anything just to see how they juggle the multitude of things they’re saying to expect. All I can say for sure is, I’m digging these Pokémon similar concepts that are starting to become more prominent.
Temtem is another game of similar style to Pokémon that released in 2020. It was pretty fun when I played it. Keep giving me more Pokémon type games, indie devs. I won’t complain one bit.
Battlefield 6 Leaks
The latest edition to the Battlefield series is slated for official reveal this week, but we’ve already got some leaks regarding it. There’s no hard confirmations on these yet, so take it all with a grain of salt. The leaks we’ve heard so far are:
It may be based in the future. Specifically, the leaks say the year 2042 (which may also influence the name to be Battlefield 2042).
It may feature a 128 player game mode, with a return to map-based destruction.
It may have a Battle Royale mode (which isn’t too surprising with most shooters these days).
It may more mobility focused gadgets, like a grapple hook, wingsuits, and deployable ziplines.
Things that we do know for sure for now:
We’ll have the official trailer this Wednesday, June 9th.
The game is confirmed to be coming to PS5 & the Xbox Series X, as well as coming to the previous gen, PS4 & Xbox One.
Formerly Rainbow Six Quarantine Receives Official Name
The latest Rainbow Six game has gotten its official name reveal. What was formerly known as Rainbow Six Quarantine is now Rainbow Six Extraction. The name was, of course, changed from ‘Quarantine’ due to the worldwide pandemic.
For you Rainbow Six fans out there, we’ll get to see more info on the game at the upcoming Ubisoft Forward event on June 12th.
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake Delayed Again
Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake has officially been delayed again. This is now the third delay since its original announcement back in September of 2020. Ubisoft announced that we would not be seeing the title in the upcoming Ubisoft Forward event at E3. The revised release date is now sometime in 2022.
Brandon’s Thoughts: It’s always disappointing to see a title you’re excited for pushed back. Being pushed back a third time doesn’t make it any better, but at the very least they’ve pushed it further back this time than any previous time. Let’s hope that with this much broader release window they can take the time they need to really hammer out the remake of a great game for new fans to enjoy and older fans to experience all over again.
Warner Bros Games Confirms Only One Title Will be Shown During E3
Warner Bros Games has officially announced what we will be seeing at their conference during E3. They’ll be showing only a single title, Back 4 Blood.
In last Friday’s newsletter I talked to you about how Warner Bros having a conference was certainly going to be unique, as they’re going through quite the restructure in a merger with Discovery at the moment. While we won’t be seeing anything aside from Back 4 Blood, you can rest assured that we’ll eventually get to see more on Hogwarts Legacy, Gotham Knights, and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League as we get closer to their slated releases in 2022.
Back 4 Blood is the spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead and is currently scheduled for release on October 12th, 2021.
