TGO Daily | June 4, 2021 | E3 Approaches
A bunch of E3 news! Check out the below for the big schedule!!
TGO Daily | Friday June 4, 2021
Did you know that the phrase ‘sick as a dog’ comes from the 1700s? It was a common insult to be compared to a dog, so phrases like, ‘dog’s breakfast’ and ‘dog in the manger’ all came from that same basis. It’s interesting to think we use phrases like this all the time, but generally don’t know their origin story. At least, I didn’t know about it until I looked it up.
Anyways, I’m sick as a dog and here to bring you the news! E3 starts next week and I’m absolutely excited to write about it!
Until next time,
Brandon
E3 is Happening! Sort of…
E3 is happening yet again, though in a similar capacity to last year's E3. Instead of E3 organizing the show, it’ll be the individual developers and publishers having their shows starting from June 10th to June 16th.
We know the schedule (special thanks to Saniyaga on Twitter for the image) and we already have some news on what to expect. I’ve broken each day up into its own section so you can easily see what each day is set to bring! With all that said, let’s dive into what E3 2021 has in store for us!
Thursday, June 10 | Kickin’ it with Keighley
What is happening and when:
The Summer Game Fest will be at 11am PST / 2pm EST / 6pm GMT.
What can we expect to see:
Geoff Keighley, longtime game journalist and host, will be kicking off the beginning of E3. We already have some strong leaks and hints that Elden Ring will be shown during this show. For those of you out of the loop, Elden Ring is set to be the latest RPG created by From Software (Dark Souls, Bloodborne). The game is featuring narrative from Hidetaka Miyazaki, creator of Dark Souls, and George R.R. Martin, author of the Game of Thrones books. There is also a scheduled performance from the band Weezer.
We’ll not only see some big titles, but also indie titles in this show which will make for a great mix. To quote Geoff in a recent interview:
“I love that we can have this big kickoff event with massive games, right into this indie showcase with a lot of titles. My hope is that people aren’t tuning in to my show and saying, ‘Well I saw exactly what I wanted to see.' Rather, the idea is for more discovery, for people to find what they came for and see titles they didn’t know about it.”
Friday, June 11 | Gearing Up for the Weekend
What is happening and when:
The Koch Media Primetime event will be at 12pm PST / 3pm EST / 7pm GMT
The IGN Expo will be at 1pm PST / 4pm EST / 8pm GMT.
What can we expect to see:
The Koch Media event will likely show some of their interesting titles - Saints Row, the Metro series (i.e Metro Exodus). Rumors say we may see something on Dead Island 2 as well.
The IGN Expo event we’ll see a slew of different publishers. This will be a trend for a few of the events over the course of E3. As there are plenty of publishers that are smaller in scale that wouldn’t have much reason to do their own singular event, we’ll see them sharing events, which is what to expect for IGN’s Expo.
Saturday, June 12 | Fellowship of the E3
What is happening and when:
The Guerilla Collective event will be at 8am PST / 11am EST / 3pm GMT.
The Wholesome Direct event will be at 10am PST / 1pm EST / 5pm GMT.
The Ubisoft Forward event will be at 12pm PST / 3pm EST / 7pm GMT.
The Gearbox event has not yet set a time (we’ll keep you posted!)
The Devolver Digital event has not yet set a time (we’ll keep you posted!)
What can we expect to see:
The Guerilla Collective event will have back to back trailers and announcement, similar to last years show. They’ve announced the following publishers will be presenting from the following games: Among Us, Hello Neighbor, Monster Train, Ghost Runner, Bloodstained, Lonely Mountains: Downhill, Banner Saga, Torchlight 3, Calico, and more.
The Wholesome Direct event will have trailers and announcements as well, but they’re whole schtick are games that are wholesome or cozy! Think titles like, Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing - nice, chill, games. If you’re into those kinds of games definitely check out this event - they’ll be showing over 75 games.
The Ubisoft event will show more of the formerly named Rainbow Six Quarantine, Far Cry 6, Assassins Creed Valhalla, Riders Republic, Watch Dogs: Legion, For Honor, and likely more on their movie ventures.
The Gearbox event is an interesting outlier here. We haven’t heard anything from them recently. Their most recent title being Godfall back towards the end of 2020, which came out to mixed reviews. Having their own event would mean they may have a big announcement. Maybe something about Borderlands? Who knows!
The Devolver Digital event should be fun, as they always do a short-film-like event. They usually keep it short and sweet, which makes for easy and nice consumption!
Sunday, June 13 | The Big Guns Come Out to Play
What is happening and when:
The Xbox + Bethesda event will be at 10am PST / 1pm EST / 5pm GMT.
The Square Enix event will be at 12:15pm PST / 3:15pm EST / 7:15pm GMT.
The PC Gaming Show event has not yet set a time (we’ll keep you posted!)
The Future Games Show event will be at 4pm PST / 7pm EST / 11pm GMT.
The Warner Bros. Games event has not yet set a time (we’ll keep you posted!)
What can we expect to see:
The Xbox + Bethesda event will be jam packed with stuff. Games we’re likely to see: Halo Infinite, a new Rare game, a new Obsidian game, Perfect Dark, Fable, Hellblade, Starfield, maybe (but unlikely) even Elder Scrolls 6.
The Square Enix event we’ll likely see: Babylon’s Fall, Life is Strange: True Colors, Life is Strange: Remastered, and the premiere of Eidos Montreal’s (creators of Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Deux Ex: Mankind Divided) newest title. There are rumors we’ll see a Guardians of the Galaxy title as well. Nothing has been said about the Final Fantasy series, but they may have news under wraps for FF7 Remake Part 2 or Final Fantasy 16 - though it’s unlikely.
The PC Gaming Show event will feature a series of games across the industry.
The Future Games Show event will be similar to some other events and span multiple publishers.
The Warner Bros. Games event is another unique event. For those of you out of the loop, Warner Media is currently being sold off by AT&T and is in a merger with Discovery. The territory for them is unknown at the moment, but at this event we’ll likely see: Hogwarts Legacy, Gotham Knights, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, and Back 4 Blood.
Monday, June 14 | Dawn of the Fifth Day
What is happening and when:
The Take-Two event has not yet set a time (we’ll keep you posted!)
The Capcom event has not yet set a time (we’ll keep you posted!)
The Mythical Games event has not yet set a time (we’ll keep you posted!)
The Freedom Games event has not yet set a time (we’ll keep you posted!)
The Razer event has not yet set a time (we’ll keep you posted!)
What can we expect to see:
The Take-Two event is mostly speculation at this point. Maybe we’ll see something about the Red Dead series. Maybe even Grand Theft Auto 6 (or more likely, the announcement of GTA5 coming to PS6).
The Capcom event will likely have: Monster Hunter Stories 2 and Resident Evil Re:Verse.
The Mythical Games will have some small publisher stuff. We’ll know more as Monday gets closer.
The Freedom Games will have some small publisher stuff. We’ll know more as Monday gets closer.
The Razer event will cover upcoming tech for its gaming products.
Tuesday, June 15 | Nintendo Sets its Sights on your Wallet
What is happening and when:
The Nintendo Direct/Treehouse event will be at 9am PST / 12pm EST / 4pm GMT.
The Bandai Namco event has not yet set a time (we’ll keep you posted!)
The Yooreka Games event has not yet set a time (we’ll keep you posted!)
The GameSpot event has not yet set a time (we’ll keep you posted!)
The E3 Awards event has not yet set a time (we’ll keep you posted!)
What can we expect to see:
The Nintendo Direct/Treehouse event will likely have news on: Pokémon Shining Pearl/Brilliant Diamond, Pokémon: Arceus, Breath of the Wild 2, Splatoon 3, and the new Nintendo Switch model. Fans will be crossing their fingers for news on: Metroid Prime 4 and Bayonetta 3 as well. I’m excited for some Zelda news and Arceus!
The Bandai Namco event will likely have news on: Digimon Survive, Scarlet Nexus, and Tales of Arise.
The Yooreka Games event will have some small publisher stuff. We’ll know more as Tuesday gets closer.
The GameSpot event will likely be similar IGN’s.
The E3 Awards event will be awards presented to games featured across the E3 event. The winners will be selected by editors from IGN, GameSpot, PC Gamer, and GamesRadar+ per an IGN article.
Wrapping it all up
It’s going to be a long E3 with a lot of news. Expect more coverage from myself and Adrian as the days close in and the events get started.
What games are you excited to see? I’m looking forward to see what Bethesda, Square, and Nintendo have in store. My favorite part of E3 is seeing the indie stuff as well - there’s always golden gems waiting to be found.
Hit us up on Twitter, Discord or reply to this email (links in the “Say Hello!” section), and let us know what you’re excited for!
Also, I’d be remiss to not tell you that Frostpunk is currently free on the Epic Games Store. It’s an awesome survival game with gorgeous graphics and addicting gameplay. The game is currently at 91% positive reviews on Steam. If you’re a fan of survival city-builders then do yourself a favor and grab it while it’s free!
