TGO Daily | September 11, 2020 | Ubisoft Forward Recap
Ubisoft has been stewed in serious controversy the past few months, which makes it hard to get excited for their latest and greatest. Unfortunately, that seems to be a common tale among many major developers these days.
That being said, there’s still enough unique announcements to come out of this show that it’s worth dedicating the entire daily update to it. Chief among them is the first look at a Breath of the Wild inspired game, which I imagine will be a common tale in the next few years.
This will also wrap up the week of news. Back on Monday with the next newsletter :)

Story Breakdowns
Ubisoft held another digital showcase, titled Ubisoft Forward, which actually had much more substance than the previous one in July. It is also worth noting that prior to the event, CEO Yves Guillemot put out a statement regarding the recent controversies at the company. This includes the internal abuse allegations that resulted in a number of firings, as well as the Tom Clancy: Elite Squad trailer which seemed to condemn the Black Lives Matter movement. Most of what he said were empty statements that promised change — nothing we haven’t heard before. Interestingly, this is the second time they’ve had to do this before a Forward event, and they still opted to not include it in the event itself.
Here are all the major announcements:
They have reintroduced Immortals Fenyx Rising (previously Gods and Monsters), and you can sum this game up with the statement “Breath of the Wild but with Greek mythology.” I’m totally serious — not only does have a similar art style and presentation, but the entire concept is pulled right from Zelda. It’s got a huge open world, four major quests to complete before taking down the evil tower in the middle, and a bunch of puzzles to solve in between it all. This isn’t a bad thing though, it looks really cool! That will be releasing on December 3rd for current and next-gen consoles, Switch, PC, and Google Stadia.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, originally released in 2003, is going to be getting a full remake. It’s been created on the same engine as the Assassin’s Creed games, and will feature new assets, controls, mo-cap, voice acting, and a new camera. Development is led by Indian studios Ubisoft Mumbai and Ubisoft Pune, which is the first major project for both of them. This will release on January 21st for PC and current-gen Xbox and Playstation, with backwards compatibility options moving forward.
Originally released in 2010, and de-listed in 2014, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game is getting a “complete edition,” which includes a remaster and all of its DLCs. This is a classic sidescrolling beat-’em-up with four player co-op, and plenty of character selection options. I guess people have been clamoring for a re-release of this ever since it got de-listed, so I’m glad it’s making that fanbase happy. It’s also making the creator of Scott Pilgrim happy:
The game will be releasing on current-gen consoles, Switch, and Stadia this holiday.
Finally, the developers of Steep are back with a new game called Riders Republic. This is apparently a spiritual successor, which will bring back the “extreme outdoor sports” gameplay, including snowboarding, biking, skiing, and wing suits. The elevator pitch here is that you can do those things while racing against up to 50 people online (though solo and co-op play is supported). It will release on February 15th on PC, current-gen, and next-gen consoles.
Also featured in the event was Rainbow Six Siege, which is getting a free next-gen upgrade and a guest appearance from Splinter Cell’s Sam Fisher. As well, Watch Dogs Legion is bringing back the inaugural protagonist Aiden Pierce within a DLC pack.
