📰 In The News
1. Bungie returns to the Vault
Bungie has officially announced that they are going to be retiring more content for Destiny 2. This time, the “Forsaken” expansion and the “Tangled Shore” destination are entering what they call the “Destiny Content Vault” (DSV).
Why it matters: The content that is being cycled out, though released in 2018, is a paid expansion. Players who spent $40 USD on it will no longer be able to play it, with a general promise from Bungie that it will be cycled back in at some point.
Bungie claims that cycling/vaulting content is necessary due to technical limitations. Rather than building Destiny 3, they want to constantly evolve the game to feel fresh.
Players are understandably miffed about this. Having a paid service disappear from being playable at all is not a great feelings, especially when its not that old compared to other deprecated games.
The changes will take effect on February 22, when their upcoming expansion “The Witch Queen” is planned to release. You can play “Forsaken” for free starting on December 7th.
2. Xbox celebrates 20 years
On November 15th, Xbox celebrates the 20th anniversary of the original console’s launch. To celebrate, they are releasing two accessories in the traditional Xbox colours (pictured above — a black and vibrant green).
The new controller has a translucent faceplate that lets you see the internal details, along with the original Xbox logo in the centre. Otherwise, it’s the standard Series X controller. The new headset has the same differences, and is based on their standard stereo headset.
They are also pairing with Razer for a quick charging stand, which is supposed to fully charge the controller in 3 hours:
3. Halo: The Master Chief Collection wraps up
In preparation for Halo: Infinite, the Master Chief Collection is going into its eighth and final season. Titled “Mythic,” it brings a medieval theme to the game, with a number of feudal-style armour sets inspired by mythical warriors. It’s not what you would expect for Halo, but it’s really cool!
The season is also going to bring a new map to Halo 3, with custom game support being expanded to the first three games in the franchise.
A collection done right: The MCC got off to a very rough start, but over the course of seven years it expanded into the definitive versions of Halo from the first to fourth game. For long-standing franchises like this, it’s a tremendous effort of games preservation, and keeping something alive that players still have a desire for.
Season 8 launches on October 13th, just one month before Halo: Infinite on November 15th.
