TGO Daily | October 13, 2020 | Upcoming Game Releases
Today was a slow day for news, so I thought we could do something fun today and look at which video games are still to come through the rest of the year! There are still plenty of exciting projects that have yet to be released, and I figured it’d be worth pointing some of them out. Hopefully this is helpful for you!
I’ll be back tomorrow, news or no news. Until then,
Adrian
Upcoming Games
October 20 - Amnesia: Rebirth
Just in time for Halloween, horror franchise Amnesia is getting its third installment. 7 years after the last Amnesia game, and 5 years since the highly critically acclaimed SOMA, hopefully Frictional Games can keep the wave of momentum they have.
October 27 - Ghostrunner
Most of you probably haven’t seen this game before, but it’s really cool. It’s a cyberpunk-themed hack-and-slash that is incredibly fast-paced, and super fluid. Gameplay is focused on mobility — utilizing plenty of fun movement like wall-running and grappling hooks. I had the chance to play the demo and I was super impressed. You’ll know if this game is for you just by watching the trailer.
October 29 - Watch Dogs: Legion
The previews for the newest Watch Dogs have looked good so far. The concept is that you can take your character and choose to become literally any other NPC in the world. From old grannies to professional hackers, the gameplay trailers have been pretty amusing to watch. Hopefully the game can live up to the marketing — not a common occurrence with Ubisoft games.
November 6 - Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered and Dirt 5
Codemasters and EA are competing in November in the racing game genre. Hot Pursuit will be a remaster of 2010’s release, the first Need for Speed game to get such a treatment. It will include all the original game’s DLC, and full multiplayer cross-play. I won’t pretend to know anything about Dirt 5, but I imagine if you’re a racing game player, you know enough to make your own judgments.
November 10 - Xbox Series X/S, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Destiny 2: Beyond Light, Yakuza: Like A Dragon
The Xbox Series X and S will be the landmarks for a few major releases on the 10th.
Assassin’s Creed makes its return with Valhalla — it’s got a strong theme, and apparently has gameplay similar to Odyssey, which may or may not be a good thing.
Destiny 2 makes a ton of changes with the introduction of Beyond Light, not just with the introduction of its 5th expansion, but also cycling out much of its older content. It’s being touted as a rejuvenation of the game.
Finally, Yakuza: Like A Dragon makes its worldwide release after being available in Japan since January. I know many people are excited for that one.
November 12 - PlayStation 5, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Demon’s Souls Remastered, Godfall, The Pathless
The PS5 launch brings a few more titles to the already packed week, albeit with two pretty major exclusives.
Demon’s Souls being a PlayStation 5 exclusive will likely move quite a few units for Sony, as that has been a highly anticipated title for a long time.
Miles Morales will also excite some people, though that will also be available on the PS4.
Folks are cautiously optimistic about Godfall from Gearbox, which has had a confusing marketing campaign (the game is made by Counterplay, who previously made Duelyst, so I’m actually excited to see what that team can do).
The Pathless is from the developers of Abzu. I haven’t seen much about it, but it looks like it’s set to be more action packed. One of their biggest marketing points is that its an open-world without a mini-map, which is a sight for sore eyes. It looks absolutely beautiful too.
November 13 - Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
A list like this isn’t complete without the game that will sell more units in the United States than any other game. This title in particular has had a rushed development cycle, and apparently that is evident in their beta. We’ll see if they can make it stable for release.
November 19 - Cyberpunk 2077
After multiple delays, this seems to be the final stop for CDPR. Unfortunately they won’t get there without a mandatory crunch policy being implemented (6-day work weeks). Regardless of development though, it’s probably the most anticipated game of 2020. Hopefully it’s just as breathtaking as it sounds.
Wrap-Up
There are a few notable games that I left out, but I had to draw the line somewhere, right? If you’re looking for a suuuper in-depth release schedule, check out GamesRadar, where they keep an up-to-date list throughout the year. It’s un-curated, but handy to have bookmarked.
I recently got a suggestion that I should keep a running list at the bottom of each newsletter of all the games coming out in the upcoming weeks. I thought it was an interesting idea, so I’m going to try it out over the next couple of days. I’ll try to format it so that it doesn’t take up too much space, but is a nice thing to quickly reference to know what’s coming.
