IO announces next game
IO Interactive put out a teaser today confirming that they are working on a new James Bond game, codenamed “Project 007.” As the developers of the highly successful Hitman reboots, I can’t think of a better pairing to bring back Bond to video games.
They say it will be a fully original story, which suggests it won’t be based on any existing material. It’s been eight years since the last proper Bond game, with 007 Legends in 2012, coinciding with the Skyfall launch in cinemas. The newest film, No Time To Die, was originally slated to already be released, but was delayed due to the pandemic.
If you’re interested in reading about why James Bond hasn’t had major releases in video games for a while, check out this article from gi.biz, it’s very insightful.
Animal Crossing guidelines
Nintendo has just released guidelines for businesses and organizations using Animal Crossing as a platform for their brand. In particular, they make note of the fact that game shouldn’t be used for marketing anything outside of the game (coupons, giveaways, etc.), nor can it be used for politics.
Throughout the past few months, a number of companies have been using the game to do exactly this. That includes the political campaign for United States President-elect Joe Biden, which created yard signs that anyone could download, and an entire public island.
No more marketing allowed! Perhaps that’s for the better, considering how family-friendly the game is.
Epic Games Store freebies
Head over to the Epic Games Store and pick up Elite Dangerous for absolutely free! It includes the base game and the Horizons expansion.
If you’ve never seen it before, this is a humongous multiplayer space simulator with grand ambitions. Like an MMO, it’s got a thriving in-game economy, requiring a lot of grinding to get the things you desire. Next year, they’ll be releasing the Odyssey expansion, which allows people to leave their ship for the first time.
They’re also giving away a game called The World Next Door, which looks like an interesting mix of a visual novel and a match-3 puzzle game.
