TGO Daily | November 2, 2020 | Expanding Franchises
As seems to be tradition for the Monday newsletters, which wraps up all the news from the weekend, there haven’t been any tremendous developments. Today, I’ve got 4 quick stories which you may be interested in.
In The News
Vampire: The Masquerade
It’s not just getting the Bloodlines sequel next year, it’s also getting a battle royale. We’ve known that they want to establish Vampire into a sprawling franchise, having already released the visual novel Coteries of New York. Even though it’s yet another battle royale, hopefully they can put a unique spin on it.
It will release in the later half of 2021.
Ruined King: A League of Legends Story
Speaking of establishing franchises: the upcoming turn-based RPG Ruined King, set in the League of Legends universe, now has the fairly broad release date of “early 2021.” It will initially release on PC and current-gen consoles, with a free upgrade to next-gen coming soon after.
"This one is narratively focused…So the characters are constantly interacting in and out of battle - the adventure and story elements are just as important as the combat…[there is] a lot of exploration and interaction with both the environments and tonnes of NPCs.”
— Joe Madureira, quoted in Eurogamer
Gears Pop!
On the other end of expanded franchises, the attempted spin-off of Gears with the mobile Clash Royale-like game Gears Pop! is now shutting down. It will officially close on April 26th, and refunds will be issued for any purchases made between July 30th 2020 — October 28, 2020.
The game was originally announced alongside Gears 5 and Gears Tactics, but it seems like players haven’t stuck around to play it:
“There are a number of things that go into maintaining a game beyond keeping servers active. Addressing issues, developing content, and providing support are critical in keeping a game running. Unfortunately, this is no longer feasible.”
Spider-Man: Miles Morales
This is hardly even a headline, but I thought you’d find it cool. They’ve revealed a new superhero suit for Miles Morales which is based on the animated film “Into the Spider-Verse.” When you put it on, it makes the character look like a true comic book character. Somehow they managed to seamlessly integrated a stop-motion animated Spiderman into the usual 3D realistic environments of the game. Check it out!
The End
Like I said folks, it was pretty slow! I try to only pick the things you’re actually going to care about, so some stories that may have hit other sites’ headlines won’t make the cut here.
I hope you’re doing extremely well, and I’ll be back tomorrow :)
