✏️ From the Author
Didn’t really have anything to say today, so here’s a poem to whoever needs to hear it right now:
You have been through fires before, and have emerged on the other side.
And maybe it was not easy, maybe it broke you and you cried.
But know that you are stronger now, and that those past tears have dried.
Every day is a new chance in life, so take it all in stride.
Until next time,
Brandon
Review Roundup | No More Heroes 3
No More Heroes 3 brings the titular Travis Touchdown back into the limelight for the first time since his last mainline title in the numbered series, back in 2010. The game follows Travis as he is challenged by an alien kingpin and his thugs, vying for domination of the planet. The game is out now on the Nintendo Switch.
The game is currently sitting at a 77/100, with 62% of critics recommending it on OpenCritic. Let’s go over the pros and cons that critics noted:
Pros:
Many critics praised the combat sequences in the game. Saying enemies felt varied and unique, with the combat feeling weighty and fun. Some did lament not having more varied abilities/moves with Travis’ attacks.
Most critics agreed the game does what the series has always done well - be ridiculous and irreverent.
Some critics enjoyed the side-job quests, stating they felt true-to-form for the series. Some found them to be sluggish and boring.
Cons:
Critics felt the open-world was barren and lacking, especially noting framerate drops in it. Some found it to be a purposeful nod to the series humor and past.
Many found the story to not have much to say, with little build-up of Travis and most the focus being on the main antagonist.
Suffice it to say, critics were pretty divided on this game. The problem is that the series is so tongue-in-cheek and meta, that you can’t truly say what is purposeful and what is simply a poor design choice.
John Carson of Game Informer gave these parting words:
“My time with No More Heroes 3 jumped between the short highs from entertaining bosses and cutscenes to long, ugly stretches in the world. Much of the design is dated, and I wanted to drop it after a few bosses to avoid the mundanity, but I’m happy I saw it to completion. There are many fun moments, and I love how unafraid it is to be strange or referential. Those who are already invested in the tale of Travis Touchdown should be right at home in this new No More Heroes. Still, I’d insist newcomers try out previous entries before diving into this Garden of Insanity.”
Blasphemous Receiving Free Expansion
The 2D Soulsvania-like (is that a thing? Did I just make that up?) game, Blasphemous, is receiving a free story expansion titled Wounds of Eventide. This is the second free story expansion from its developer, The Game Kitchen.
Wounds of Eventide will follow more of the Penitent One’s story, serving as the final installment in the game. The update will have new areas, items, bosses and will unlock the true ending of Blasphemous. The Game Kitchen also used the trailer of the final installment to announce they’re working on a sequel to the game as well.
“We’re so excited to finally announce that we’ve started work on a Blasphemous sequel, the community have shown so much love for the first game and we can’t wait to share more when we can! New beginnings also mean new endings, and Wounds of Eventide is exactly that, it’s the final instalment for the original Blasphemous and we hope people love playing the new content as much as we loved creating it.”
Wounds of Eventide will release December 9th. The sequel is still in development, with the only information of a release year being 2023.
Shadow Tactics Aiko’s Choice Release Month Announced
The latest standalone expansion for Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun has been given a release month of December - titled Aiko’s Choice.
The expansion will feature 3 main missions set in new environments, with three shorter interlude missions. It will also feature the return of Mugen, a samurai from the original game. The story will revolve around the kunoichi adept Aiko, as she is challenged by her former sensei and covers more of her past.
Mimimi Games is also working on a brand new IP for their next game. They said that it will be set in “a whole new world, with a new setting, story and characters.” The game will be another real-time tactics title, and will also be fully developed by Mimimi Games with no publisher - meaning Mimimi will have full control and say.
If you have any interest in real-time tactic games, this will definitely be something to check out. Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun was very positively received by critics and gamers alike. You can check out the trailer for Aiko’s Choice below.
Phasmophobia Releases Latest Update
The ghost hunting title released their latest update, Exposition, at the end of last week, while still in their early access.
The update includes new equipment, as well as changes and improvements on existing ones. It also adds two new ghosts, the Myling and Goryo. The Goryo is a quiet and shy addition to the roster, while the Myling is very fond of making noise. The update also included plenty of bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements as well.
Brandon’s Thoughts: I never would play this game, but watched plenty of it on Twitch. It really seems like a wonderful game to play with friends and get utterly spooked together. I can’t handle spooky things at all, so I’ll be here rooting you on from the sidelines. You go get that ghost!

Steam refund abuse has Summer of '58 developer Emika Games considering hiatus. A great turn out of support for the game has hopefully helped change developer Alexander Reshetnikov’s mind.
The No More Heroes series is over, its creator says. The original name for No More Heroes 3 was going to be ‘No More Heroes 3 Final Bout: All-Out Galactic War’. What a missed opportunity.
