Long time, no talk! My sincerest apologies for the newsletter absence for the past week. A whole bunch of stuff has happened since you last heard from me, but things are settling down a bit. At least, enough that it’s time to bring the newsletter back!
All I’ll say for now is that I’m fine and there’s nothing to worry about. I’m honestly doing better than ever and I’m happy! Perhaps I’ll share more later down the road.
With that out of the way for now, let’s dive into some news!!
Until next time,
Brandon
Halo Infinite Delaying Two Modes for Post-Launch
343 Industries has decided to push the latest Halo’s Forge mode and cooperative campaign mode to seasonal releases beyond the games launch. They plan to still launch Halo Infinite Holiday of 2021, with the accessible modes on launch being the free-to-play multiplayer and the solo campaign.
This decision comes as 343 was originally considering pushing the game’s release date back in order to bring in the two modes with launch. However, they decided against it, coming to the conclusion that the multiplayer mode is strong enough on its own to carry on with launch. Their current plan is now to release the co-op campaign mode in second season of the game (around 3 months post-launch), with the Forge mode coming around 6 months after the game’s release.
When asked about the reason for the delay of the modes, the Project Lead, Joseph Staten, stated that technical challenges were the main culprit. Forge mode having a lot of moving parts and the cooperative campaign introducing more challenges with saves. He went on to say:
“We talk about launch as being the beginning of that journey, but to have a beginning you need to pick a moment and actually begin. Ultimately, we decided we’ve been working on this game for a really long time, the fans have been waiting for this game for a really long time. With solo campaign and our first season of free-to-play multiplayer we’re in a really good shape for holiday… we didn’t want to delay anymore. Let’s get started and we’ll continue to evolve from there season to season.”
Brandon’s Thoughts: I think not delaying the game is definitely the way to go. Forge mode is so awesome, but the multiplayer is the reason the majority of people play, and if it’s ready to go then getting the game out there is better than waiting longer - especially with Forge at least being half a year away from release to be ready. I just realized I haven’t played a Halo multiplayer game since ODST. I loved Halo 2 and Halo 3 so incredibly much. I’m really looking forward to playing this when it comes out!
PlayStation Exclusive, Wild, Reportedly Cancelled
Wild, announced back in 2014, has been very under the radar since a short trailer of it was shown at Paris Games Week all the way back in 2015. With practically no news of the game in years it’s been easy to assume it was on the backburner, however it’s now being reported that the game has been outright cancelled.
The claim comes from Giant Bomb’s Journalist, Jeff Grubb, who reports the developers are no longer working on Wild, and instead are trying to keep their team together for another project.
The game was originally spearheaded by Michel Ancel (Rayman, Beyond Good & Evil), however, Ancel ended up retiring in September 2020. At the time, he was working on Beyond Good & Evil 2 and Wild. When he retired he did state the projects were autonomous and would continue without him, however Grubb has said, “I can confirm that game is fully done. There is no Wild anymore… Wild is dead.”
The developer, Wild Sheep Studios, has not confirmed this yet, but with the sheer lack of any news of the game since 2017, it’s fair to assume the game has been cancelled.
Doom Bundle Comes to the Nintendo Switch
Doom comes to the Switch, but in a good way - in the form of the Doom bundle: Doom Slayers Collection. The bundle was announced at this year’s QuakeCon and will include: Doom (1993), Doom 2, Doom 64, Doom 3, and Doom (2016).
Doom 2016 is really what put the series back on the map, with some really heavy hits and solid gunplay in it. If you’ve never played Doom, it’s gory, but has a lot of fast-paced and action-packed fun. If it sounds up your alley, you can pick up the Doom Slayers Collection on the Switch for $49.99 USD and experience the evolution of one of gaming’s first big shooter’s.
