Epic v Apple
The biggest thing happening right now is that the Epic v Apple trial has begun.
Here’s a great rundown of everything that happened for opening statements. Not much about gaming in there, since this trial is all about monopolies and anti-trust laws.
Turns out that Fortnite made more than $9 billion in its first two years.
Epic had a real tough time trying to secure Fortnite cross-play with PlayStation. It’s revealed that PlayStation is the only platform that requires compensation to enable the feature.
Solid numbers provided for how much Epic has paid developers to have free games on their platforms
The trial had tech issues which left hundreds of people with unmuted mics
Microsoft does internal game reviews — recently praised The Last of Us Part II and claimed it “sets a new bar for what we should hope to be able to achieve.”
Microsoft has considered reducing their revenue share to 12% on the Xbox platform (already happened on PC).
