Capcom FY Financials
For the fourth fiscal year in a row, Capcom has reported record profits. For the year ending March 31, 2021, they saw sales of $859 million and income of $318 million.
The profits were driven by their gaming division. Monster Hunter Rise was the biggest seller with 4 million units shipped, despite releasing only a few days before the fiscal year ended. Closely following that was the Resident Evil 3 remake which sold 3.9 million units.
Other divisions at Capcom, like their arcade and film products, were hampered by the pandemic.
The company is expecting strong back-catalogue sales over the next year, mixed with major releases like Resident Evil Village. The next known release is Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin on July 9.
Gears Update
The Coalition posted a quick update on their blog today, announcing that they are focusing on current-generation development by moving to Unreal Engine 5. As such, they don’t plan on revealing any more Gears titles “for some time.” Gears 5 will be getting some more content drops through to the end of the year though.
PlayStation Shortages
According to Bloomberg, Sony have told analysts that they don’t expect PS5 shortages to lift any time soon. They have a huge demand for the consoles, and they think that “even if we secure a lot more devices and produce many more units of the PlayStation 5 next year, our supply wouldn’t be able to catch up with the demand.” 2022 is the earliest that many of these issues will be lifted.

This newsletter is a companion/alternative to a mini-podcast I produce. Most people listen on Amazon Alexa devices — but it’s also available on all podcast hosts (that is also the archive of all episodes). It’s also on Google Home, but I don’t have a link for that one!
And hey, if you like what I do, maybe consider sharing this newsletter with a friend?
