Welcome back!
Just yesterday, I finally had the chance to try Valheim which has just been exploding these past 6 weeks. After the first 4 hours it just feels like a really good-looking survival game, but I look forward to what it has to offer — I know a lot of people are high on it.
There weren’t any hard hitting stories this weekend, but there are a few things to talk about :)
Have a good one,
Adrian
Discord & Microsoft
Last week I told you that Discord is putting themselves up for sale — well it turns out that Microsoft is a more interested party than originally indicated. Talks between the two companies were initially reported by Bloomberg, then affirmed by The Wall Street Journal.
According to them, the deal could close as soon as next month, with Microsoft acquiring Discord for around $10 billion. Xbox head Phil Spencer is part of the discussions. Part of the reason may be because they want to integrate Discord Nitro as a Game Pass perk.
If the deal goes through, it would be Microsoft’s biggest acquisition since they got LinkedIn for $26 billion in 2016.
Rust hitting consoles
Popular survival game Rust is going to be arriving on consoles on May 21st for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. There will be multiple versions of the game at different price points.
This version of the game is obviously based on the PC game, but is being advertised as a “separate experience.” It’s even being developed by a different company. The two games will be continuously maintained but will have differing update schedules. Thus, there won’t be crossplay between PC and consoles.
Rust is known as one of the more hardcore survival games, and it recently got a boost thanks to Twitch streamers. It will be interesting to see if its received just as well on consoles.
Crash Bandicoot
The PC release of Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time launched over the weekend, and people were dismayed to find out that their single-player game must be always-online. This is generally the case for all Battle.net games. They’ve already run into some issues which prevent people playing the game because of server issues, which is…really something. It’s also worth noting that the game has already been cracked, so this isn’t preventing piracy in any way.
Also in Crash news, the mobile title On The Run also released over the weekend. It’s a pretty standard runner, though it’s fairly high budget. It also got more than 10 million downloads over the course of 3 days which is pretty impressive.
We Are Football
THQ Nordic have unveiled a new football management simulator called We Are Football. The development team was co-founded by the previous creator of On The Ball, which were similar games released in the early 90s.
In contrast to the Football Manager series, We Are Football is marketed as very easy to grasp. They say that you’ll even be able to finish an entire season in roughly two hours — so a more compact experience for those of you who might have been intimidated by the complexities of other managers.
They haven’t revealed which team licenses they bought up, but the game will have a full editor which will allow people to make their own custom teams. A real-life mod is inevitable.

This newsletter is a companion/alternative to a mini-podcast I produce. Most people listenon Amazon Alexa devices — but it’s also available on all podcast hosts (that is also the archive of all episodes). It’s also on Google Home, but I don’t have a link for that one!
