It Takes Two reviews
The latest title from Hazelight Studios (Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, A Way Out) has just released, and it’s called It Takes Two. It is aptly named, as the game can only be played in co-op — much like A Way Out.
The story puts you in the role of Cody and May, a married couple who plan on getting divorced. When their daughter finds out about it, she curses them into the bodies of dolls, forcing them to work together and repair their relationship to un-do the curse.
Critics are generally very positive about the game, with a number of outlets giving it a perfect score. They praised the truly co-operative nature of the levels, which force you to have good communication and teamwork. They were also pleasantly surprised with how quickly the game changes and evolves as you play — there are constantly new concepts and challenges being introduced keeping the game fresh. In fact, Polygon (who had the only negative review I could find) claims that the game worked best when it was moving quickly “like a narrative-heavy party game,” because “no gimmick is particularly rich or deep.”
I think the best overall message I can find about the game comes from VG247:
Honestly, It Takes Two is one of the most pleasant surprises in video games I’ve ever had. I went in more or less expecting a fairly gimmick-laden brief but fun escapade, but it’s so much more than that. This is a game that I would recommend to anyone who longs for the kind of no-holds-barred childlike fantasy so common in the 80s but seems less common today.
It sounds like a great game to play with a partner or family member. If you want to pick it up, it’s $40 — and you are given a “Friend Pass” with each copy which allows someone to play the game with you online without having to buy it.
Rocket League Sideswipe
Psyonix announced today that they are going to be bringing a new Rocket League title to mobile later this year called Rocket League Sideswipe. It’s similar to the original in many ways, though the game has been transformed into a 2D side view. It looks like it plays a lot more like an arcade game, which seems appropriate for mobile. The game will have 2 minute timers and will be limited to 2 members to a team (1v1 also possible). Pretty fun idea though!
Hitman 3
IO Interactive’s Hitman 3 is going to be getting a 7-part expansion which is themed around the seven deadly sins. Each unique content pack will focus on a different sin, with distinct aesthetics and content featured in new missions. The first act is Greed, and will be releasing on March 30th (the trailer above made it look really cool). Each pack will be priced at $5, or you can buy all seven for $30.
Of course, that is on top of all the live events that they have been consistently running since release.
FFXI Mobile
After five years in development, the mobile reboot of Final Fantasy XI has officially been cancelled. The game was originally announced in 2015 with a planned 2016 release — pretty wild that it didn’t get stopped until 4 years after that. It was being co-developed by Nexon and Square Enix, but both companies said that it didn’t meet their expectations and had to put it away.
Mario
Here’s your final reminder that Super Mario 3D All-Stars is being taken off the market in one week (March 31). This is the bundle that combines 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy. We’ll see if they ever have plans to bring it back in the future, but for now this is your only shot.
