TGO Daily | March 22, 2021 | Payday 3 Gets a Publisher!
March 22, 2021
Hey! Hope you had a tremendous weekend :)
Just wanted to let you know that I did a cool thing! I was interviewed by Bradley Metrock and Emerson Sklar for their weekly podcast called This Week in Voice Live!
You should check out their show if you’re interested in voice technology. Either way, we did a fun little interview and Jackbox play session that were a lot of fun.
Otherwise, it’s the daily update as usual! Thanks friends :)

Starbreeze Secures Publisher
After an extremely long wait, Starbreeze has secured a publisher for Payday 3. Koch Media has entered a €50 million deal to cover both development costs and international marketing. That will cover the game up to its release and the 18 months following. This means that Payday 3 is expected to launch on PC and consoles in 2023.
If you haven’t been following the story, this is huge for Starbreeze. They were on the brink of insolvency for a long time, and were only barely scraping by with revenue from Payday 2 through 2020. With a leadership change and new focus for their products, they have a much brighter future.
Marvel’s Avengers
Marvel’s Avengers developer Crystal Dynamics have confirmed that the PlayStation exclusive appearance of Spider-Man in the game will be delayed. It was originally planned for early 2021, though right now it isn’t even on their roadmap.
Interestingly, the game was also a catalyst for criticism against the PlayStation 5 save transfer process. Their official Twitter account posted a thread explaining the steps needed to transfer a save from PS4 to PS5 and it was…complicated to say the least. Here’s the first tweet:
Meanwhile on Xbox for the same game, you just need to own the game on both consoles and pretty much not do anything else.
Game Sales
A bunch of games gave updates about their sales data today, which gives us an interesting peek behind the curtain.
First of all, Valheim is continuing its forward momentum with it passing the 6 million units sold mark. That’s about 1 million sales per week since its release. The next thing in the pipeline is their first major update called “Hearth and Home.”
A game which is perhaps on the other side of what Valheim will eventually go through — Terraria has sold 35 million copies across all platforms. It has now also beaten Portal 2 to become Steam’s highest rated game of all time. Wow!
Another game which has had past experience in Early Access, The Long Dark, has now been confirmed to sell 5 million units. They have an additional 3.5 million players through the Xbox Game Pass and the free giveaway from the Epic Games Store. (This really puts into perspective the success of Valheim, considering The Long Dark has been out for three and a half years).
Various Updates
There’s a whole bunch of little updates I’m going to fit into one segment here.
Nier Automata has just been released on Game Pass PC, and it’s been confirmed that it is a fixed version compared to the Steam version. The latter was apparently a big mess. Hopefully the Steam version will be patched in the future, which has been relying on modders up to this point.
Cyberpunk 2077 is getting its next big patch, which was delayed thanks to the cyberattack at CD Projekt. You can find the full details here, but it will be adding some fixes for the police system, driving, and more quality of life options.
Gotham Knights, the latest from WB Montreal, has been delayed to 2022. Expect to hear a lot more of these announcements in the next 9 months.
Shin Megami Tensei 3 has been remastered, and is releasing on PC this May. First released in 2003, they released the remaster in Asia last October. It brings higher resolution textures, the ability to save anywhere, and new voice acting. This continues Atlus’ streak of bringing their catalogue to PC, following the recent release of Persona 4 Golden. (Source: Rock Paper Shotgun).

This newsletter is a companion/alternative to a mini-podcast I produce. Most people listenon Amazon Alexa devices — but it’s also available on all podcast hosts (that is also the archive of all episodes). It’s also on Google Home, but I don’t have a link for that one!
And hey, if you like what I do, maybe consider sharing this newsletter with a friend?
