Epic Games Store Stats
The Epic Games Store released a blog post detailing some of the statistics of 2020. They confirmed that the store now has 160 million users on PC, with 31 million daily active users and 56 million monthly active users. For context, Steam has a little over double the MAUs.
Customers spent $700 million on the store — only 37% of that was from third party games. That means that Epic’s games brought in $441 million on PC (which presumably belongs to Fortnite alone). It’s still a money-maker.
They gave away 103 games throughout the year, and a total of 749 million individual titles were claimed. They will be continuing to give away games in 2021.
Bleeding Edge Done
Source: eurogamer.net
Last March, Ninja Theory departed from their usual action-adventure games and released Bleeding Edge — a multiplayer hero brawler. Unfortunately, they announced today that they will be ceasing development on the game.
While the servers remain up, it’s no surprise that they stopped working on it. It never succeeded in really taking off, and on Steam it struggled to get more than 20 concurrent players over the past few months.
They’ve got a lot of exciting stuff on their plate right now, including Hellblade 2, so I’m not too worried for them. But its too bad their attempt at branching out a bit didn’t work out.
Returnal Delayed
PlayStation 5 exclusive Returnal has been delayed to April 30th, which is about six weeks of delay.
If you’ve never seen it, Returnal is a third-person shooter roguelike, where the protagonist is stuck in an endless cycle of fighting monsters in space. You might recognize the developers, Housemarque, for the PS4 launch title Resogun. It will cost the standard AAA price, which in America is now $70.
Slay the Spire Goes Android
One of the best games to release in the last decade, Slay the Spire, is going to be releasing on Android devices on February 3rd (next week!). The game had its official release on PC and consoles in 2019, and released on iOS last June. People have been waiting for this one for a while.
If you think you’d have any interest in a deck builder or roguelike, you need to give this one a shot. I have to imagine mobile is a great place to play it as well — super easy to take on the go.
I’ve put a lot of time into the PC version:
The Grab-Bag
Old-School RuneScape is heading to Steam on February 24th. The game is still performing extremely well!
Immortals: Fenyx Rising now has a demo available everywhere. It was previously exclusive to Google Stadia.
Capcom Q3 financials. Had a 22% increase in sales Y-O-Y, driven by Resident Evil 3 remake and Monster Hunter World: Iceborne which has pretty long legs. Expecting to dramatically increase their profit over the next eight years.
