Resident Evil
A Resident Evil showcase was held today by Capcom that gave a bunch of news about the franchise. Most notably, they announced that the newest mainline entry Resident Evil Village will be releasing on all platforms on May 7th. If you’re interested in the gameplay, feel free to watch the footage above (start at 28:50) or try out a demo of the game that is now available on the PlayStation 5. It looks like the inventory system is a throwback to Resident Evil 4 where you have to fit things in like Tetris.
They also announced a new multiplayer shooter called Resident Evil Re:Verse. It’s a PvP 3rd person shooter with teams of 4-6. You play as a number of different characters throughout the franchise — all with their own unique abilities. Interestingly, the game has a comic book art style that seems pretty unique to the franchise. Anybody who owns Resident Evil Village will be able to play this game for free.
Dead by Daylight in hot water
For years, Dead by Daylight has had issues regarding accessibility — particularly with the lack of any colourblind options. Last week, this came to a head when lead balance designer “Almo” replied to a Twitch chatter on his personal stream:
“…it’s getting really boring just blabbing about colourblind mind all the time. We’ve heard it a million times, we know. Continuing to badger us about it isn’t going to change anything. If it gets done, it’ll get done when we have time to do it or if somebody decides that its something that should be done.
We know that a lot of players want it, we know it’s not a small number. We get it.”
This clip went somewhat viral on Twitter for being dismissive to accessibility issues. In response, the official twitter account of the game announced that they are now adding a mode for colourblind users, which they’ve been working on for “some time.”
Team17 Acquires Golf With Your Friends
Source: gamesindustry.biz
Publisher and developer Team17 (Worms) have fully acquired the rights to the game Golf With Your Friends. They published it on its original Early Access release in 2016. Developers Blacklight Interactive will receive an upfront payment of £9 million, followed by another £3 million within one year.
GWYF became fairly popular as one of the bigger multiplayer mini-golf games. Its known for its larger-than-life level design, as well as more wacky mechanics like the option to turn your ball into a cube, or to put it in a basketball hoop instead of a hole.
Looking forward, Team17 will explore additional DLC for the game, as well as a potential sequel. It’ll be nice to see this game with some more investment behind it!
Sea of Thieves Season 1
Sea of Thieves is launching its first battle pass next week, which means they are also beginning with “Season One” of the game (despite releasing in 2017). This will also signify a change in content releases, which will now be delivered every three months corresponding with the battle pass.
It looks like they created the pass in order to point players in a clearer direction and give them more to work towards. The first one will bring a new voyage type, new events, and of course new cosmetics.
