Indiana Jones Returns
Yesterday, we mentioned the rebranding of Lucasfilm Games. As mentioned at the time, most people assumed this was purely for branding purposes, and didn’t indicate any larger changes. Today, we were proven wrong.
Indiana Jones is returning to the world of video games, and its happening under the umbrella of Bethesda. The teaser above doesn’t give much besides the announcement of its existence, but they also tweeted this:
MachineGames has previously only really worked on the Wolfenstein reboots since 2014, starting with the The New Order and most recently with Youngblood. It will probably be a while before we see anything substantial out of this. No word yet on Xbox exclusivity, but I think that’s unlikely.
In the grander scheme of things, I really hope this gets done well. Not only is it cool to see MachineGames stretching their creative legs, but if it works, Lucasfilm/Disney may be more willing to work with different developers for Star Wars.
Personally I’m not as familiar with Indiana Jones as maybe I should be, but I’m definitely excited for the community to get a proper game out of it.
Super Mario 3D World
Super Mario 3D World is a Mario platformer that originally came out on the Wii U, and is heading to the Nintendo Switch on February 12th. For this release, they’re also adding an expansion with new content called “Bowser’s Fury.” Today, they released a new trailer showing off what the new expansion will be bringing.
In “Bowser’s Fury,” Bowser has become uncontrollably gigantic. He is Godzilla sized Bowser, which is pretty dope. Mario ends up enlisting the help of Bowser Jr. to take him down. He also turns into an equally large Cat Mario.
3D World is called one of the most underrated Mario platformers ever, likely because it released on the Wii U which not a lot of people had. Feel free to check it out if you’re interested.
Alongside the trailer was the announcement that there is a new “Mario Red & Blue” Nintendo Switch edition heading to stores on the same day.
Grab Bag
Those were the two major stories of today, but there’s also a bunch of miscellaneous stories which I’ll do a quick recap for here.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has just gotten an update bringing it to next-gen standards. It includes 60FPS and increased resolutions. Full details on the EA blog.
Dead Cells is getting a new expansion called “Fatal Falls,” and we now know the release date is January 26th. It’s the second paid expansion, which is only $5.
The Sims 4 is also getting content on January 26th, but for them its the “Paranormal” Stuff Pack. It introduces a bunch of haunted houses, ghosts, and cursed objects.
