Riot Games Update
Last Friday, Riot Games provided an update for all of the titles that they have in their portfolio. Here’s a quick rundown of what they announced, and links to where you can read more:
League of Legends is adding a new champion named Viego (otherwise known as The Ruined King). This is the character which serves as the base for their upcoming tactical RPG Ruined King: A League of Legends Story. Three other champions will be added to the game as part of his story. Here’s the cinematic introducing Viego.
Valorant (FPS/hero shooter) is also adding a new character named Yoru, who has been labelled a “stealthy infiltrator.” His abilities are built around faking people out with mimics and navigating the map quickly. Here’s his cinematic.
Teamfight Tactics (auto-battler) is getting a new mid-set which will introduce a bunch of content, with some teasing of the next set coming out. It’s also getting a new game mode this year, which will be a faster version of the game that can be completed in 20 minutes or less. Here’s the breakdown.
Legends of Runeterra (card battler) gave a roadmap for everything they plan to do through to July. It includes the new set, multiple expansions, and plenty of events to participate in. Full infographic on Twitter.
League of Legends: Wild Rift (mobile version of the original) is heading to North America in March. No word yet on when it will appear on consoles.
For a company that only had one game two years ago, it’s pretty cool to see all this. They’re doing extremely well at balancing all these games — none of them are duds, and all of them are extremely notable in their respective genres. Not to mention the lore that they develop over time.
AGDQ Completes
After 7 days of intense speedrunning, Awesome Games Done Quick has concluded, raising $2.7 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. While it isn’t a donation record for them, as it usually is, they’ve proven that the pandemic has not stopped their ability to put on a great show and raise a ton of money. They deserve a lot of credit for that.

Jonas Neubauer Passes Away
Legendary Tetris player Jonas Neubauer has passed away at the age of 39.
Jonas was perhaps the most famous person in the competitive Tetris scene. He won 7 of the 10 Classic Tetris World Championship tournaments, and had a pretty big following when he streamed on Twitch. He was also known for his fairly chaotic playstyle, often getting himself into holes that he miraculously would dig himself out of.
The first time I heard of him was in the 2018 CTWC, where he faced a 16 year old in the finals:
Here’s a 2018 profile of him from Vice, if you’re interested in reading more.
