✏️ From the Author
Greetings! Adrian here. Once again I’m giving Brandon the day off, who has been having a really tough time nailing down his sleep schedule. Cross your fingers for him :)
Today, it’s all about PlayStation. They had a showcase today, and had some pretty major announcements. It feels pretty early for a lot of these, but that’s the nature of the industry.
Hope you’re doing well, and have a great weekend!
With love,
Adrian

PlayStation Showcase: September 9, 2021
Sony held a PlayStation showcase today, making some major announcements about exclusives and some ancillary news about third party games. Everything below should be the things you’ll care most about from the event!
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (Insomniac Games)
To nobody’s surprise, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was announced as a PlayStation 5 exclusive with a 2023 release date. Both Peter Parker and Miles Morales will be in the game this time around, and it appears as though the main antagonist will be Venom.
Marvel’s Wolverine (Insomniac Games)
In a very quick teaser, it was also revealed that Insomniac is working on a full game dedicated to Wolverine. Without a release date, here’s what they said on their blog post:
“In the vein of our Spider-Man games, our goal here is to not only respect the DNA of what makes the character so popular, but also look for opportunities to make it feel fresh and truly reflect the Insomniac spirit. Even though Marvel’s Wolverine is very early in development, from what I’ve seen of its emotional narrative and cutting-edge gameplay (see what I did there?), the team is already creating something truly special.”
Insomniac has been firing on all cylinders recently. Releasing Miles Morales and Ratchet & Clank (both of which were hugely critically acclaimed) while in pre-production for the games just announced is no easy feat. I hope that momentum continues for a long while!
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake (Aspyr)
Originally released in 2004 as an Xbox exclusive, Knights of the Old Republic is being remade into a PS5 exclusive. It will be developed by Aspyr Media, who specializes in porting games to various platforms — this will be their first new game. Aspyr was acquired by Embracer Group earlier this year.
Very few details about the game were provided, but once again here’s a quote from their blog post:
With Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Remake, our hope is to give both series newcomers and long-term fans an experience that can live alongside the very best modern releases. We’re rebuilding it from the ground up with the latest tech to match the groundbreaking standard of innovation established by the original, all while staying true to its revered story.
God of War Ragnarok (Santa Monica Studio)
The sequel to 2018’s God of War has finally been given a proper trailer, with the expected subtitle of Ragnarok. The adventure continues with Kratos and Atreus, with a tease of them encountering Thor.
It was confirmed that the game will be directed by Eric Williams, who is taking over from Cody Barlog. The game releases some time in 2022.
Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection (Naughty Dog)
PlayStation continues porting their portfolio to PC with the newest remaster of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End which will also be bundled with spin-off Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. The collection will also release on the PS5 in early 2022.
Other Announcements
Project Eve announced — looks like PlatinumGames-style combat.
Indie game: Tchia trailer — looks very wholesome, with some great visuals
