BioWare Cancels Anthem Development
Ever since BioWare’s Anthem released in early 2019, the team has been working on fixing its problems. Even though the game sold decently, it was critically panned and lost almost all of its playerbase within weeks. Reportedly, they were planning on releasing a “2.0” version of the game called Anthem Next. That project is no longer in development.
The small team which was left to fixing the game has been relocated to work on the next Dragon Age game. Anthem itself will remain online and playable if you still want to try it, though it was critically panned for a reason.
Super bummed that they weren’t able to turn this one around. I was ready for another gaming redemption story.
Surprise Stardew Board Game!
In a surprise announcement, ConcernedApe has officially released a Stardew Valley board game! It has been in development for two and a half years, alongside a board game designer. In a blog post, they said that they wanted “to make a board game that captures the essence of Stardew Valley. It has pretty much everything from the video game: villagers, crops, animals, fishing, foraging, mining and more.”
The game is playable from 1-4 players for ages 13 and up. Each play session is roughly one full in-game year which takes “about 45 minutes per player,” though difficulty and timing can be adjusted. Narratively it’s the same as Stardew, where the players are fighting to drive away Joja Corp from taking over the town by completing goals and restoring the community centre.
I want to be really clear with everyone that this game was designed to have some depth and complexity. It’s easy to play once you learn the rules, but it’s not a short, casual game. Please check out the rulebook to make sure it’s a good fit for you and those you like to play board games with!
So cool! It’s available here if you want to buy it.
Star Wars Republic Commando
A remastered version of Star Wars Republic Commando has been announced by Aspyr Media. Originally released in 2005, the dev team had also ported it to the Xbox One in 2016. Now, it’s arriving on the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch for the first time.
It will arrive on April 6th with an updated control scheme and a whole new slate of trophies. It will cost $15 USD on release.
Cyberpunk Patch Delayed
CD Projekt Red has announced that they will be delaying the second major patch for the game (Patch 1.2), which was scheduled for this month. It is now targeted for the second half of March.
This time around, there is little to blame them for. Having been the subject of a major cyberattack, with all of their information now sold and in the public, they’ve had to do a lot of damage control.
Our goal for Patch 1.2 goes beyond any of our previous updates. We’ve been working on numerous overall quality improvements and fixes, and we still have work to do to make sure that’s what you get.
According to Bloomberg, many employees working remotely have been locked out of their private network for the past two weeks. Their information is also in the hands of the hackers, including Polish ID numbers and passport info. It’s a really bad situation on top of really bad timing.
Crusader Kings III
Paradox have announced that a new content patch will be arriving, introducing winter to the game. Snow and harsh blizzards will be around both aesthetically and mechanically, where soldiers in a harsh winter will take more resources and be more likely to perish. The patch will also bring some map updates, though we don’t know when its coming yet.
