Two new Batman-universe games announced: Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League
The “DC FanDome” event took place online this weekend, which brought a whole bunch of Batman announcements, including two new games! Though, neither of them include the Dark Knight himself.
The first is called Gotham Knights, developed by WB Games Montreal. This studio was previously responsible for Arkham Origins, the third game in the Arkham series which also functioned as a prequel. Gotham Knights tells the story of the death of Bruce Wayne, leaving his friends Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, and Red Hood to take care of the streets in his wake. The game can be played either solo or in two-player co-op. The gameplay indicated that this title will be leaning more towards an RPG-like experience, with customizable skill trees and enemy health bars. Visually it still looks like an Arkham game, but it will obviously have its own innovations.
Gotham Knights releases on PC, current-gen consoles, and next-gen consoles in 2021.
The game that everybody has been wondering about for the past few years is the one from Rocksteady Studios, who are the developers behind the main three Arkham games. On Saturday, they announced Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League.
This game is also going to have four protagonists; Harley Quinn, Deadshot, King Shark, and Captain Boomerang. It will be an open world game with up to four-player co-op, and is a continuation of the Arkham storyline. So even though it’s a game surrounding the Suicide Squad, the universe is persistent.
Gameplay was not shown as the release date is a little farther away, being slated for 2022 on PC and next-gen consoles.
Five Nights At Freddy’s creator bringing fan games to life
Five Nights At Freddy’s may feel like a franchise past its prime, but its community has remained strong ever since the release of the first game. So strong in fact, that a number of fan-created games have appeared with FNAF as its direct inspiration. Today, the creator of the franchise, Scott Cawthorn, announced what he is calling the “Fazbear Fanverse Initiative.”
“There have been some great fanmade spinoff universes created in this community, and I want to see them keep going; that’s why I’ve put some my own cash toward development of new games in those game series. However, I’m going to stay OUT of the development side of things so that these creators can do their thing.”
Once development has completed, these games will be posted for free on PC, but will also get bundled into official releases of FNAF that arrive on consoles and mobile. These fan games may even be getting things like toys and merchandise.
To say this is a class act in community engagement is an understatement. I don’t think we’ve seen such a heavy commitment into a game’s community…ever. People are extraordinarily happy to see this coming to fruition.
Crysis Remastered slated for September 18th
Previously announced for a July release, Crysis Remastered is now arriving on PC and consoles on September 18th. Interestingly, it has been on available on the Nintendo Switch ever since that original July deadline — and people have been impressed with it.
As might be expected with a game like Crysis, they have been heavily pushing the technological advancements of the game. Feel free to peruse those specs from the link above. Perhaps we’ll soon be saying “but can it run Crysis Remastered?”
