TGO Daily | April 7, 2021 | E3 Returns
April 7, 2021
Hey everyone! There wasn’t a newsletter yesterday because of Easter Monday bringing absolutely no news. Instead of bothering you with an empty email, be sure to keep my eye on my Twitter where I usually give updates.
E3 Returns
The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has confirmed that E3 is going to be returning this year in digital form. Running from June 12 to 15, they have already confirmed multiple companies that will take part: Xbox, Nintendo, Capcom, Ubisoft, Take-Two, Konami, Warner Bros., and Koch Media. Companies like PlayStation, EA, and Activision Blizzard are notably absent from the list.
We don’t know much about the format it is going to take. It should have the usual news and announcements, but it’s to be determined if there will be any interactive elements — they previously suggested there would be on-demand demos of games.
They intend on running E3 2022 in-person.
Oh also — it’s called the Electronic Entertainment Experience now (instead of Expo). Not sure if that’s just for the digital event.
Monster Hunter Rise
I talked recently about how well Monster Hunter Rise is selling, but the narrative has absolutely continued. The game has now been sold more than five million times in ten days, which is only slightly behind Monster Hunter World. Though, World released on PlayStation and Xbox whereas Rise only released on the Switch.
This goes to show how impactful World was for Capcom. Not only is it their best selling game ever (16 million units), but it made a ripple effect to their next release. Hopefully they can keep up that momentum, I know a lot of people really love the franchise.
As a fun fact — Monster Hunter is only their second best selling franchise when all games are combined (70 million). Their #1 is Resident Evil with 107 million units sold.
Xbox & PlayStation Subscriptions
Both the Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Now are going to be getting additions to their service soon.
Headlining the Game Pass is the return of Grand Theft Auto V, as well as the day one release of MLB The Show 21. It will also be getting NHL 21 through the EA Play partnership and Zombie Army 4: Dead War. Those are some pretty top tier games.
PlayStation Now also has some heavy hitters, which will be adding Marvel’s Avengers, Borderlands 3, and The Long Dark. Along with those games, they will be adding a 7 day free trial to the service for the first time. It is a little bit different than Game Pass, as it’s game streaming — that requires a pretty hefty internet speed. I’d argue the library is a little worse as well, but there’s plenty to love there.
Misc. Game Updates
The original Titanfall game will be getting some fixes, after being targeted by DDoS attacks for a long time now. Despite the game being pretty old, and having a successor in Titanfall 2, there is still a dedicated community playing it. The sequel has had issues as well, so they might be trying to solve both. Either way, nice to see that they’re dedicating some attention to it.
Forager developer HopFrog has confirmed that the game’s multiplayer update has been cancelled. They aren’t abandoning the game, but the team that he left to make the update apparently caused problems that aren’t worth fixing — they would rather just make Forager 2. Refunds are being offered.
Sea of Thieves will begin its second season next Thursday. That’ll bring some new content updates and a new battle pass which lasts three months.
If you’re interested in the changes coming to the Mass Effect Legendary Edition, be sure to check out their blog. They are running weekly updates that detail all the improvements they are making.
Say Hello!
That’s all for today :) If you want to get in touch, you can always reply to this email. You can also DM me on Twitter, or come join the community on Discord (it’s awesome)!
This newsletter is a companion/alternative to a mini-podcast I produce. Most people listenon Amazon Alexa devices — but it’s also available on all podcast hosts (that is also the archive of all episodes). It’s also on Google Home, but I don’t have a link for that one!
And hey, if you like what I do, maybe consider sharing this newsletter with a friend?
