Hey! I did not send out a newsletter yesterday because there weren’t any substantial stories to talk about. However, I’ve now come to the realization that I could at least send you some bullet points to the few stories that were there. I might not have anything additional to say, but I may as well do the research for any stories you might be interested in.
Hope that that’s helpful! As such, today I only have a few segments written out myself, with the rest being external links if you want to read more. Sometimes a headline is all you need, you know?
Best,
Adrian

Respawn and Oculus win an Oscar
Respawn Entertainment and Oculus are officially Oscar winners. At the 2021 awards show, the Academy Award for Best Documentary (Short Subject) was given to the film Colette, which the companies co-produced.
Colette is a 25 minutes documentary which is included in the release of Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond, which is a VR title. It shares the story of a woman French resistance fighter in World War II.
This makes it the first Academy Award ever given to a video game company. History has been made!
Apex Legends “Legacy”
The ninth season coming out for Apex Legends, “Legacy,” is also its biggest.
Respawn will be introducing a brand new permanent game mode called Arenas, which has nothing to do with the battle royale genre. Arenas will challenge players in a 3v3 deathmatch, which takes place over a number of short rounds. Each round, players can access the shop, where you can buy new equipment, upgrade your loadout, or get more charges for your hero abilities. The mode will have custom maps, and will obviously be tweaked quite differently than the main battle royale mode. Personally, I’m super happy to see this — I loved Apex when I first played it, but I am not great at battle royales at all.
The update will also bring a bunch of lore from the Titanfall franchise. For example, the new hero’s name is Valkyrie, who is the daughter of a character from the second game. She has a jetpack which is pretty cool.
All of this, alongside the upcoming mobile release, shows how Respawn is trying to freshen things up after two years of it being out. Sounds like now is a good time to get back into it, or play for the first time.

Say Hello!
That’s all for today :) If you want to get in touch, you can always reply to this email. You can also DM me on Twitter, or come join the community on Discord (it’s awesome)!
This newsletter is a companion/alternative to a mini-podcast I produce. Most people listen on Amazon Alexa devices — but it’s also available on all podcast hosts (that is also the archive of all episodes). It’s also on Google Home, but I don’t have a link for that one!
And hey, if you like what I do, maybe consider sharing this newsletter with a friend?
