Rocksteady Studios accused of failing to act on sexual harassment
Today, accusations have surfaced that Rocksteady Studios, most well known for the Batman games, repeatedly ignored harassment against their women staff. According to the Guardian, back in 2018 a letter was created by 10 of the female staff in the company raising complaints against a number of serious issues. I won’t go into those details, you’re welcome to read that for yourself, but ultimately what came of that letter was a 1 hour seminar that was just done to sign the dotted line. Two years later, one of those women has made this whole issue public, because of Rocksteady leadership’s inaction.
And just to be clear, this wasn’t just a report on a few isolated issues. There were a number of things being covered, including the fact that out of the hundreds of people that work in the company, less than 20 of them are women. They also point out the costume choices for certain female Batman characters.
Apparently when the Guardian contact Rocksteady for their story, the company then held an all-hands meeting to discuss the letter for the first time. So hopefully this will be the start of things turning around, much like we’ve seen with something like Ubisoft.
Eiyuden Chronicle sets Kickstarter records
You might remember a while back I told you about a game called Eiyuden Chronicle, which is a Suikoden spiritual successor on Kickstarter. Well, it was announced today that they have broken a Kickstarter record for highest funded project in Japan, which is just so cool to see. As of this writing, the project has accrued close to 3.2 million dollars, which is high above their 500,000 target. They are well deep into their stretch goals right now.
If you’re still in the dark on this whole thing I wouldn’t say it’s something you need to go out of your way for. It really exists for the Suikoden fans who have been craving for something new for a long time. On the flip side, if you’re a JRPG fan and liked the graphics of Octopath Traveller, then you might just want to check it out.
Untitled Goose Game getting co-op
Yesterday I told you that Ghost of Tsushima is getting a co-op mode, well so is another title: Untitled Goose Game. Yes, the game where you are a goose, and your sole objective is to annoy people, is getting a multiplayer mode.
They put out a hilarious trailer for it, and honestly I don’t know why this wasn’t in the game in the first place. I actually played it and thought it was absolutely hilarious, and I can only imagine how much better it would be with another person. Seriously, if you’ve got a partner that you like to play games with, or even if that person doesn’t play a lot of games, this is a great one to jump into.
Death Loop and Sports Story delayed, Baldur’s Gate 3 gets a release date
Two games have been delayed today. The first one is Death Loop, the newest title from Arkane Studios (Dishonored, Prey). They were originally hoping to release the game in time for Christmas, but it will now be coming sometime in quarter two of 2021.
The other game is called Sports Story, which is the sequel to the hit indie game Golf Story. They didn’t even give a target for this game, it’s just delayed indefinitely.
Speaking of release dates, Baldur’s Gate 3 has been given a new one of September 30th. In tradition Larian Studios fashion they will be launching the game into early access, which will feature the first of the game’s three acts.
Microsoft Flight Simulator hits a sore spot
Yesterday I told you that Microsoft Flight Simulator has been getting endless praise from critics, well it looks like the game has hit a snag in public opinion, and you should probably know about it.
Essentially, the game has a 90-100GB file size, but you download those files through an independent Flight Sim launcher. So this means that if you buy it on Steam, then you will technically be playing the game (in Steam’s system) while you download it. Of course Steam has a no questions asked 2-hour play-time refund policy, but it will probably take longer than 2 hours for you to download the game. Thus, you lose the ability to refund it if you don’t like it.
With the storm that has been picked up with this story I wouldn’t surprised if Valve makes some kind of amendment. I was certainly surprised that they let it work like that in the first place though.
