An Update About the TGO Newsletter
Hello everyone! I have provided a TL;DR of this email below, but I do encourage you to read the whole thing :)
TL;DR
Everything returns this Monday!
Writing the TGO Newsletter has become extremely difficult for me, but I don’t want to give it up.
The newsletter is returning with Brandon as its new author, and I will be shifting into an editor role. He is the best possible person to take over!
The content, format, and alignment with the audio version will largely remain the same.
Thank you so much for your patience ❤️

The Hiatus
There are many things to talk about in this update, but I first want to sincerely apologize for the absence of the daily updates. I wish I sent you an email letting you know it was going away for a bit — unfortunately I kept fooling myself into thinking I was going to just jump back in to writing.
I’ve hinted at this before, but writing the TGO Newsletter has been a significant undertaking for me. It takes by far the most time out of my evening every night, and as you probably could tell…I’m not a writer. I’ve never had a passion for it, and ultimately I have found myself dreading the creation of TGO every day because I know I have to go through the labour of writing everything out.
This project started at a smaller, manageable, scale. I was already writing scripts for the podcast, and I thought to myself “why not convert this script into a newsletter, and potentially provide value in a different format?”. Over time, I stopped relying on a script to create the podcast, and the newsletter became its own product.
I had one hang up through all of this: I really love the product. You’ve all given some amazing feedback about it, and I truly think it can serve as a pillar of TGO moving forward, alongside the audio formats. I have been extremely hesitant to give it up.
Enter Brandon
Dear reader, I want you to know that I am very protective of The Gaming Observer. It has been my baby for close to three years now, and I have always been very careful about who I want speaking on behalf of me and the brand.
While we were in hiatus and I was debating what I wanted to do with the newsletter, I got a message from an old friend of TGO by the name of Brandon. He offered to take over writing, and I immediately accepted.
Brandon is one of the only people I can imagine taking this role. He has been a supporter of TGO from the very beginning — he knows my style and content inside out. He is extremely personable, someone who actually enjoys writing, and has a great knowledge of the gaming industry. Each of our collaborations in the past have been a tremendous pleasure, most recently he was the incredible moderator of our Discord events.
I understand transitions like this aren’t always the easiest, but I think under Brandon’s byline you’ll find the newsletter to be just as consistent and valuable as it has always been. He knows what TGO is better than anyone, and I look forward to having him on the team.
I will be taking the role of editor from now on. Each newsletter will have my overview, and I will fill in for Brandon as needed!
Moving Forward
So what’s changing? Not much, to be honest. The format of each newsletter will stay the same for now, and it’ll be business as normal as of Monday. Over time, you’ll get to know Brandon better and he’ll be able to bring his own flair to each daily update.
Thank you so much for being a subscriber, and for supporting TGO! It’s greatly appreciated, and I hope you will continue to get value from it indefinitely. I view this change-up as the next step for the Observer — I’ve always talked about bringing team-mates on board, and this is my first chance. It’s nerve-wracking, but exciting all the same.
Please reach out with any questions or comments :)
